How does a microchip scanner work?

If you need to determine what your pet's microchip number is or you want to check that the microchip is fully functional you will need to have the pet scanned; your vet, local SPCA or animal control agency have the needed equipment

A scanner reads microchips using low power, low frequency radio waves. The scanner has the ability to transmit its unique microchip number but it does not have the ability to provide details for that specific pet or owner which is why it is critical that you have your pet's microchip number registered in the database and keep your contact info up-to-date!
