Why was my proof of ownership document denied?

We reserve the right to refuse any documentation that we feel does not meet our criteria.  Most commonly, your proof of ownership document may be denied for the following reasons...

  • No owner name listed
  • Not in new owner's name (the name on the account MUST match the name on the document you submit)
  • No pet information listed
  • Document out of date (with the exception of an adoption contract or bill of sale a copy of a vet bill, rabies certificate or pet license must be dated within the last 12 months)
  • Document not acceptable (we cannot accept anything hand written!
  • Document is too difficult to read (print is too light or too blurry)

As a friendly reminder, an adoption application is not the same as a signed adoption agreement and a picture of the license/rabies tag is not the same as a pet license issued by your city/town or rabies certificate.

If you receive an email from us indicating your transfer request has been denied we will include a reason why and give you an opportunity to upload a new document for our consideration.
