Why was ownership changed if I did not authorize it?

In order to change ownership we require adequate proof of ownership documentation in the new owner’s name; we reserve the right to refuse anything that we do not think meets our criteria.

We accept a copy of one of the following documents as proof of ownership:

  • An adoption agreement from a rescue or shelter
  • A current pet license from new owner's city or town
  • A current pet's rabies certificate
  • Vet bills dated in the last 12 months

Our transfer paperwork also includes a disclaimer that in the unlikely event that the previous owner contests the transfer, the transfer will be reversed and the transfer fee is refunded.

If the pet is reported as lost in our database, the lost pet report will need to first be resolved with the registered owner before the transfer request can be considered; this is the only scenario which would require us to contact the former owner in advance for their permission.

Once the transfer is completed the previous owner on file is notified via email of the transfer.

If your pet was transferred in error please contact us via email ASAP at petlink@petlink.net.
