I found a pet, what are the next steps?
If you’ve found a pet, here’s what you can do to help:
1. File a Found Pet Report
Go to PetLink's website and submit a found pet report or contact our customer support by phone at 877-738-5465; select option 2 then option 1. You’ll need the pet’s microchip number to complete this step.
2. Owner Notification
After filing the report, PetLink will notify the pet’s owner using the contact details on file:
- Email: Sent twice daily for 5 days.
- Phone: A voicemail will be left if the call is unanswered (unless the voicemail is full or unavailable).
- Text Message: Sent once daily for 5 days.
3. Connecting with the Owner
- If you choose to share your contact information, the owner can reach out to you directly to arrange the pet’s return.
- If you don’t hear from the owner promptly, please call us at 877-738-5465; select option 2 then option 1, We are available 24/7/265 or you can email us at petlink@petlink.net, we are available Monday - Friday 8AM - 5PM EST for email assistance.
4. Temporary Care
If you’re unable to care for the pet temporarily, we suggest reaching out to your local animal control agency or SPCA for assistance.
